My Thoughts on New Year
Friday, January 2

It's funny how I used to think that a brand new year means a brand new me. I used to think that I would change instantly once January 1st hits. But my thinking was wrong, as there was no truth in that theory. A brand new year's just a brand new year. No brand new start, no brand new you. It's just a new year. What you make of the new year is up to you. You can either pull up your legs and do nothing (like me), or you can make the most of it.

What I normally would do for the New Year is make some resolutions. Sure, I keep up with them for a month or so. But before January even wears out, I've already ditched them. Not intentionally, of course. I cared about my resolutions too much in the first few weeks that I ditched my old activities completely and didn't take into consideration of that. Which is exactly what I'm not supposed to do. I'm supposed to slowly incorporate my resolutions to my activities, and make room for both.

It's just like growing a flower. You can't grow a flower instantly by pouring a whole bucket of water to its seeds on the first day. It wouldn't grow. You're supposed to water the flower with drips and drips of water, emptying the bucket in months.

I guess what I'm trying say is that it takes time to build a brand new you and let the resolutions work. Everything takes time. And that is why it's so precious. So let us not waste it, and start putting our resolutions to work, bit by bit.
