Gives Me Hope
Thursday, January 14

I've been reading off the site GivesMeHope almost all day, and cannot stop reading. Here are a few of the many stories that touched me:

When I was six or seven, I spent Christmas Eve at my grandparents. I was so afraid that Santa would not be able to find me, that my Grandpa made a sign out of mud and an old sheet that said "Santa! Lisa is here! Bring her presents here!" He then attached it to the icy roof in the dead of winter.

My grandpa GMH.

Today, I took one of the children I work with to have to McDonalds. The child is 7 years old, autistic, has fetal alcohol syndrome and lives in a shelter with his grandmother. Aware he was hungry, I asked him why he hadn't eaten his food and he smiled and answered

"I want to take it home to share it with my grandma." GMH
When I was 14, I was homeless. A couple who only knew me from buying things from their convenience store in my town gave me no choice but to move in with them and their two daughters. My drug addicted mother gave them constant trouble for taking me in, but they never gave me up. I am now in my second year in medical school.

Their selfless love GMH

My little 8 year old sister has leukemia.
Today I visited her in hospital and she said to me:

"Ellie, I know I'm going to die. But I know that I'm going to be coming back as a kitten. So after I'm gone and when a kitten comes to your door. It will be me. I will always love you. Even when I'll be a cat".

Her beautiful words GMH.

It's these people that make the world a better place for everyone. It gives me hope, to know that there are selfless people like them in the world.
